According to TMZ, Birdman recently reached out to former protégé turned nemesis Lil Wayne to tell him that he had nothing to do with the tour bus shooting that is believed to have been an attempt on Wayne’s life.
Despite a reported indictment that specifically names Birdman and Young Thug as co-conspirators in the plot to kill Wayne, the Cash Money boss told Wayne in a brief phone call that he was in no way involved and even offered to help figure out who was behind the shooting.
Widespread speculation made much of the fact that phone records show that Birdman reportedly got a phone call from Young Thug associate Jimmy Winfrey after the April 26 shooting in Atlanta, but reports also indicate that someone from Wayne’s camp called Birdman, as well, possibly to inform him of the incident. Things get weird because both phones that placed calls to Birdman after the shooting are registered to him. It turns out all the phones involved in the back and forth calls are still being paid for by Cash Money Records.
Nonetheless, Birdman maintains his innocence in the matter.
Winfrey was arrested after a brief manhunt and charged with a number of crimes including aggravated assault, making terrorist threats, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Having been denied bond, he is currently in jail awaiting trial.
