Summertime is the ideal season for rest and relaxation, but sometimes, the funds aren’t there for a trip to a casino or resort in Las Vegas or the Caribbean. But if you are looking for a closer locale that doesn’t require an expensive plane ticket, Foxwoods Resort Casino is less than three hours away by car from both New York City and Boston and has enough amenities to entertain you for weeks.
Foxwoods, North America’s second-largest casino, is enormous. I stayed at The Fox Tower, but other options include Grand Pequot Tower, The Villas at Foxwoods, Great Cedar Hotel, and Two Trees Inn. The Fox Tower features huge rooms with large, floor-to-ceiling windows and bathrooms so big they added a phone just in case you get lost in the tub during hours of relaxation.
Foxwoods Resort Casino combines several casinos with hundreds of gaming tables that offer poker, roulette, blackjack, craps, thousands of slot machines, and much more. Foxwoods also offers a premier golfing experience, as well as luxurious spas that will add more relaxation to your vacation.
Foxwoods has two state-of-the-art theaters, the Grand Theater and Fox Theater that routinely feature some of the best names in entertainment. R. Kelly finished a three-night gig at the Grand Theater, and comedian Jerry Seinfeld performed recently as well. Upcoming performances include The Bad Boy Reunion Tour featuring Ma$e, 112, Total, The Lox and Mario Winans on August 22, Gladys Knight and the O’Jays August 29, the legendary Diana Ross in September, and much more.
Love to shop? Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods will capture your heart. Debuting in May, Tanger Outlets features over 80 incredible stores. From athletic wear like Nike and Under Armour, to iconic brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Coach, and so much more, your day will absolutely fly by at Tanger Outlets at Foxwoods.
There are plenty of dining options, both casual and upscale, at Foxwoods. Whether you want Chinese at Golden Dragon, Mexican at Scorpion Bar, or the New York City familiarity of Junior’s Restaurant, Foxwoods has an abundance of casual dining options.
Feel like dressing up for a romantic dinner? David Burke Prime is Foxwood’s signature steakhouse, and Paragon offers a French fine-dining experience. I opted for the Italian fare of Alta Strada, located in The Fox Tower. The Crunchy Veal Meatballs with Spicy Tomato-Basil Sauce was a very unique and tasty appetizer, while the Chicken Milanese with Arugula, Marinated Tomatoes, and Onion was pure perfection. The menu at Alta Strada features Italian signature dishes, steaks, chops, fish, burgers and even individual pizzas, so the menu literally has something for everyone.
Foxwoods also offers a great nightlife experience. Shrine Nightclub has been ranked one of the world’s top 100 four years in a row. Located in The Fox Tower, the 21,000 square foot venue features top DJs and celebrity hosts and is open five nights a week.
Looking for family entertainment or some couples fun? High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge is a 20-lane bowling alley that features a light menu and full bar to offer you a premier bowling experience. Tree House Arcade is your place at Foxwoods for a gaming experience featuring dozens of games from classic to contemporary
So if you are looking to take a day trip, staycation or vacation and want to check out a place that has tons of entertainment to keep you and your loved ones busy for a couple of days, Foxwoods Resort Casino is a great option that I am certain you will be delighted with.
