For Atlanta, August is a very exciting month. This time of year, the city is filled with major corporate and entertainment conventions, mega music festivals, fashion weeks and Atlantan’s become glued to their TV’s to watch their Falcons rumble their way to the playoffs. As exciting as all of this sounds, sometimes things can get a little boring when you attend the same events year after year, so we found some new events making debuts in Atlanta.
Motown the Musical
The Fox Theatre

The smash Broadway hit Motown the Musical makes its way down to Atlanta. The musical follows the storyline of the legendary Motown Record label and its founder Berry Gordy, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and the rest of the Motor City’s superstars. The musical already accumulated four nominations at the 2013 Tony awards, and it’s opening at select locations throughout the U.S. What better way to kick off the tour than to perform at the historic Fox Theatre? The show is in town for just one week, so make it a date night for two and go enjoy the sounds of the country’s favorite music genre.

Every year, thousands of fans attend popular anime conventions including MomoCon and DragonCon. But have you ever heard of Onyxcon? Onyxcon is the largest convention in the Southeast celebrating the impact, contributions, and presence of the African Diaspora in *REALMS OF IMAGINATION through the popular art forms. The convention features independent and mainstream creators of comic books, film and media that focus on the Diaspora.
