There is continuing violence and unrest on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, one year after the death of Michael Brown. On Tuesday night, a senseless killing took place near the epicenter of the chaotic protests. The victim was no protester or criminal suspect, but rather a 9-year-old girl named Jamyla Bolden.
Jamyla was sitting on her mom’s bed when someone fired into the home, striking the child and her mother, who was wounded in the leg. Police suspect the killer stood in front of the bedroom window and fired into the house. At least five bullet holes were found on the exterior of the house. Jamyla’s grandmother, who asked not to be identified because of safety concerns, held on to her granddaughter as she took her last breaths, begging Jamyla to hold on to life. At the time of the shooting, there were other people in the home, According to the grandmother her husband and Jamyla’s brother were also in the home when someone opened fire. Fortunately, they were not injured,
Her father, James Bolden, made an impassioned plea for anyone with information to come forward.“Don’t just do it for me, do it for her. Do it for a 9-year-old child that didn’t even get to see the rest of the world,” he said.
The Ferguson Police Department have no motive or suspects in the case. Compounding the issue are claims that the police and city officials are being very tight-lipped about the investigation. At this time, according to local media, the community has not been told to be on the lookout for any suspect or if the neighborhood is in any danger,
