Wayne Brady fans will soon have the chance to see him in a way they’ve never before seen the versatile actor: as a drag queen.
Brady has just been announced as next in line to play “Lola” in the on-going Broadway run of the hit show Kinky Boots. The Let’s Make A Deal host will take over the role for Billy Porter, who has hit the stage as Lola in more than 800 performances and won a coveted Tony award in 2013. Porter is set to leave the production in mid November, just in time for Brady to take over for the Pre-Thanksgiving holiday hot season.
In the show, Brady will star as a drag queen who helps a new found friend save his family’s struggling shoe business. Pop music legend Cyndi Lauper will provide the score of the award winning show, which claimed six awards at the 2013 Tony Awards.
His turn in Boots won’t be Brady’s first taste of theater nor Broadway. In 2004, he did a stint in the Broadway production of the classic Chicago, and in 2010 he appeared in the Hollywood Bowl run of Rent. Just last year, he also took part in the Pasadena Playhouse rendition of Kiss Me, Kate.
Brady will make his debut as Lola in Kinky Boots on Nov. 21.
