Sena Pierre has an online Christian magazine that’s dedicated to children and young adults. She wants to give them something positive to interact with in the Houston area. Pierre also works with Meek Models, an organization set to empower high school girls, lift them up and build their self-esteem through photo shoots. Local make-up artist comes out to teach them makeup techniques and share that inner beauty is better than outer beauty. Pierre’s other project is Pierre Production Films. She has partnered with producer, director and actor LaMarcus Tinker, who appeared in “Friday Night Lights” and “Glee.”
How did you select this career?
I always wanted to do something in entertainment. I just did not know what. I know God had a calling on my life to reach out to the youth. After I went to college for advertising, I was able to style some celebrities. I wanted to do more after returning to Houston from California.
What are some tips you give the youth?
Encouraging them to be the best they can be, inner beauty, letting them know that everyone is beautiful, also letting them know there is a life outside the inner-city. Get your degrees, go beyond and think outside the box.
How do you handle challenges?
I have a great support team and system. Family and close friends help me stay on track.
Who are your peers in your field?
I look up to and admire LisaRaye.
Who are your role models?
Ava Duvernay and Shonda Rhimes, any African American who is making a change.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Definitely in films and plan to have two films.
What two books have you read that inspired you?
T.D. Jakes, Reposition Yourself: Living life Without Limits and Insightful Living by Tamara Jones.
What role does technology play in your day to day life?
A major role all day everyday with the online magazine.
