A domestic dispute led to a shooting at a church in Selma, Alabama. According to the Selma Times-Journal, James Junior Minter entered Oasis Tabernacle Church on the morning of Sept. 20.

Minter took a seat next to his girlfriend and infant son. At some point, Minter began arguing with his girlfriend. The argument escalated and Minter pulled out a handgun and pointed it at his girlfriend. Minter then shot the woman in her shoulder and her jaw. The 1-month-old child was also shot in the hand.

The pastor of the church grabbed Minter and attempted to take the gun away; however, the pastor was also shot during the scuffle. Several church members surrounded Minter and were able to force him to the ground and took his gun away. Minter was able to flee from the scene.

After a brief search, police found Minter less than one mile away from the church. He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and charged with attempted murder.

Minter’s girlfriend, son, and the pastor were rushed to a nearby hospital where they remain in stable condition.

Reportedly, Minter began shooting because he was upset with his girlfriend over visitation rights with their son. Unfortunately, Minter will likely be unable to see his son for several years if he’s convicted of this crime.
