The yearlong legal battle between Hefe Wine and Iggy Azalea ended late this summer after both parties’ attorneys spent seven hours in a legal conference to finally reach an undisclosed settlement. Wine has since returned to the studio to continue doing what he does best. With all the hoopla surrounding the music battle between he and Azalea, sex tape talks and going back to court, it was all a sad distraction, taking time away from Hefe’s main focus; raising his two boys as a single dad and making music.
There’s not another independent artist-entertainer living or dead whose music catalog can match that of Houston native Wine, who boasts 17 stunning full-length albums. His faithful fan base of both gospel and secular followers stretches from the United States to South America, France, Germany and Japan. And his strong street credibility can only be rivaled by bad boy, bulletproof personas portrayed in big-budget action flicks.
But this is more than a mere motion picture. This is the real-life resurrection of one of the best Southern rappers to ever spit on a microphone. Five summers away from the game, the triple-OG rapper formerly known as Wine-O returns to lay it all on the lines with the fall release of his long-awaited 18th solo album Solomon.
Offering just a sample of what he has perfected over his career is the recent release of his sexually expressive new single “Heaven” on iTunes. Evoking an array of emotions from heartfelt, sentimental moments to unbridled passion and animalistic lust, Hefe Wine causes climactic comforts with the ladies with his deep, smoky baritone atop infectious, mid-tempo production.
Accompanying the single is the equally explosive, documentary-style biographic music video that mirrors a movie that Wine produced and directed called “Watusi” set to air in early 2016. Directed by music video maverick Mr. Boomtown and written by Wine, the video was shot on the sunny shores of Miami and features Colombian model and actress Angelica Betancourt, who was flown in from South America for the shoot to bring awareness to cancer. One of her family members has been stricken with the disease.
“With this record, I take you on a roller coaster ride of passion and excitement,” Wine explains. “A girl doesn’t know whether to cry in your arms or take off your clothes and sex you down. It’s that powerful.”
Without question, Wine knows how to create a hit record. Then known as Wine-O, he has held down a strong fan base since releasing his debut album, Bloody 5th, in 1996 and igniting a musical career that most rappers could only dream of. But even though he has enjoyed worldwide fame and acquired major label deals with powerhouses EMI and Universal Records, life wasn’t always so rewarding for the big boss.
