Fans and curious onlookers alike that never got the chance to catch a stand-up routine by the legendary Redd Foxx will soon get their chance to do so.
A projection technology company called Hologram USA recently struck a deal with the late comedian’s estate to create a stage show featuring some of the comic’s greatest material with plans to take the act on the road.
Hologram USA founder Alki David says he couldn’t think of a better comedian to do this kind of show with.
”Redd Foxx is a hero who helped change the game not just in comedy, but in how Americans talk about race and sex,” David said.
Foxx first came to prominence with his unique brand of sometimes vulgar comedy on what was known as the “chitlin circuit” before becoming one of the biggest acts in Las Vegas. He then gained mainstream acclaim when his classic sitcom “Sanford & Son” became a hit for NBC in 1972. Foxx went on to make a number of appearances in film and television before dying of a heart attack in 1991.
Foxx isn’t the only comedian to get the hologram treatment. The company also struck a deal to bring late “Saturday Night Live” comedian Andy Kaufman to audiences soon.
Hologram USA plans to take both Foxx and Kaufman on tour in 2016.
