Best moments from the 2015 Soul Train Awards red carpet

The Soul Train Awards unfolds like a big family reunion. It’s a time for the top R&B and soul acts to come together and celebrate past and present achievements.

But what if the celebrities who participated in the award ceremony were actually family? Erykah Badu and Jill Scott would be the cool cousins who could recite Nikki Giovanni poems while also enjoying trap music; Babyface would be the laid back uncle who always had pretty women and gave the best gifts during the holidays; Fantasia is the cousin who would have the entire congregation in tears while singing during Sunday service; and R. Kelly is that uncle who can get out of control at times, but the family always forgives him because of his success.

The family dynamic is a theme that plays throughout the Soul Train Awards which airs on Nov. 29 on BET’s Centric. There are performances by the young, old, and spiritual. And the finale ends with a makeshift cookout that’s followed by the longest Soul Train line that you will ever see. Indeed, the Soul Train Awards is the annual family reunion that somehow takes place in the fall.
