Record companies absolutely live for the usual post-awards show bump in record sales but even the best Hollywood writer couldn’t dream up country music star Chris Stapleton’s fortune.
After winning all three categories he was nominated in at the recent Country Music Awards, and putting on a show-stopping performance with pop star Justin Timberlake, Stapleton’s debut album, Travelier, which was actually released in May to critical acclaim but achieved modest sales, made a remarkable re-entry onto the Billboard Top 200 chart, rocketing all the way to No. 1.
Travelier registered 177,000 impressions (153,000 pure sales) on the latest chart after falling completely out of the top 200 in September. Back in May upon its initial release, the album debuted at and peaked at No. 14 before slowly but surely falling down and eventually off the chart. Thanks to the CMA accolades, the album has sold more in the past week than it did in all the time leading up to the awards ceremony.
Elsewhere on the chart, a number of new entries including releases by Eric Church, veteran rockers Def Leppard, and two compilations make their way into the top 10 while Carrie Underwood, The Weeknd, Fetty Wap, 5 Seconds of Summer and Drake and Future’s collab project all hold their footing for the time being.
Also of note, the week marks the first time in over a year that Taylor Swift’s landmark album1989 has fallen out of the top 10.
