Lupita Nyong’o’s Star Wars character has been revealed

Fans of the highly anticipated sci-fi saga can put their minds at ease. Thanks to EW, we’ve finally seen Nyong’o’s face. In the film, Nyong’o plays Maz Kanata, a small alien whose eyes have mysterious properties. That’s her pictured below.

Oddly enough, the Mexican-born Kenyan beauty’s character has been right in front of us this whole time. Several weeks ago, the film released a poster, featuring the little creature we now know to be the 12 Years A Slave star.

And while she may be small, according to J.J. Abrams, Maz’s story is packed with power. “Her history is that she was a pirate for a long time … She’s lived over a thousand years. She’s had this watering hole for about a century, and it’s like another bar that you’d find in a corner of the Star Wars universe.”

Up next for Nyong’o, she’ll be playing a CGI character in the new Jungle Book adaptation, following a young orphan boy who is raised in the jungle with the help of a pack of wolves, a bear, and a black panther.
