Although Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom originally separated back in 2013, the couple didn’t begin to finalize their divorce until earlier this year. However, the divorce came to a screeching halt last month when Odom nearly died after suffering a reported drug overdose, a coma, and a stroke. Since his health scare, Kardashian has been helping Odom while keeping up with her relationship with Houston Rockets star James Harden. And now Kardashian has opened up about how Harden not only helped her decide to move on from the marriage, but also stick by Odom’s side.
Yesterday, Kardashian spoke with radio host Ryan Seacrest about her long separation from Odom and explained that it was her romance with Harden that made her decide to move forward with divorcing him.
“When I met James,” Kardashian said, “I just felt like I needed to finish with the divorce, and I expedited it.”
However, things changed when Odom nearly died, but Kardashian says Harden has been understanding of the situation.
“I just thought it was really insensitive to [expedite the divorce],” she said. “I get it, I get why it’s confusing, I understand all of that. James has been great. He’s been very supportive with everything.”
Kardashian also says that Harden has been a source of stability and solace throughout this recent ordeal with Odom.
“There [were] of course times where I’m sure he was really uncomfortable about some of the things, but I’m a very honest person and I have nothing to hide and I was very open with how I feel like I had to handle everything with Lamar. I really, really appreciate how supportive James has been, and it wasn’t just another layer of stress on me,” she said.
As previously reported, Odom is currently recovering from his injuries, but Odom is reportedly struggling to walk, speak, eat or even remember close friends and family.
“What the doctors tell me is, ‘We don’t have a crystal ball’ — they love reiterating that to me. I’m very optimistic and I want to believe he can. There are no promises, but if he’s willing to do the work — I know the speech therapy, or the occupational therapy, or just all the cognitive stuff, I’m sure it’s really hard for him and frustrating — but if he’s willing to do it, I don’t see why not. But it will take at least a year; at least,” Kardashian said.
Aside from talking with Seacrest about Harden, Kardashian also spoke with Ellen DeGeneres recently about Odom’s health. Find out why she doesn’t talk with Odom about the details of his near-death experience after the cut.
