“If you are always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be.” –Maya Angelou
That is one of attorney Janet C. Scott’s favorite quotes. Instead of just pursuing normality, hard work has led her to a successful career as a lawyer, educator and industry leader.
As an experienced attorney, Scott has practiced in several areas, including criminal law, education, employment, entertainment and insurance defense. Currently, she serves as counsel at the law fi rm of Smith, Welch, Webb & White LLC, specializing in education law.
“Every experience that I have had in my life prepared me for my current job as an attorney,” says Scott. “Each day, I encounter people and difficult situations. It is my job to find solutions, but more importantly, it is my job to provide assistance. Whether the person is my client or the opposing counsel, I must work zealously to find a solution.”
A graduate of Spelman College and Mercer University, Scott taught middle school before attending law school. Now, in addition to being a successful attorney, Scott has become a leader in the legal profession as president-elect of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
“In my opinion,” says Scott, “the three most important facts of being a successful woman are perseverance, passion and poise. Perseverance drives you to get back up each and every time you get knocked down. Passion is the fi re that wakes you up every morning. And poise is the grace that helps you never let them see you sweat.”
For the superior level of excellence in everything she does, Janet Scott, Esq. is the true embodiment of success.
