Any time Prince can make an appearance anywhere, it should be viewed as a special occasion. The legend arrived at the AMAs in surprising fashion to present The Weeknd with an award. Fans can only hope for a duet in the near future.
Jennifer Lopez opens with amazing dance
To understand the magnitude of Jennifer Lopez’s dance routine during the opening, millennials must remember that Lopez was born in the 1960s. Yes, the same decade of the Vietnam War, and Motown’s dominant era within music. But Lopez proved any naysayers wrong by opening the show with a mesmerizing dance routine.
Diddy flirts with J. Lo
There was a time back in the day around the year 2000 when Diddy and Jennifer Lopez were the hottest couple in hip-hop. Before Jay Z and Beyoncé, there was J. Lo and Diddy. While presenting an award, Diddy flirted with Lopez who smiled in return. There were also images of the two talking together at the event.
Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd
Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd were both big winners at the AMAs. Minaj won Favorite Album in Hip-Hop and The Weeknd won for Favorite Male Artist in Soul/R&B.
Skrillex hits the Dab
The EDM crew Skrillex paid homage to Atlanta rap group Migos by doing the Dab during their press conference. It was a bit of a surprise, but it was another example of how hip-hop culture continues to inspire a multitude of genres.
