Republican State Senator believes that education is an issue because Black students can’t turn themselves into White students. The racist statement was given during a heated exchange during am education committee meeting in Lansing, Michigan.

While discussing failing school systems, Republican Senator Marty Knollenberg said, “You mentioned these school districts failing, and you mention economically disadvantaged and non-white population are the contributors to that. I know we can’t fix that. We can’t make an African-American white.”

Knollenberg was immediately criticized by several Black representatives who called the statement racist. Knollenberg responded by saying that he wasn’t racist because he has, “an African-American employee who works for me.”

It’s apparent that Knollenberg has racist sentiments and doesn’t deserve to be a state lawmaker. He also believes that having one African-American employee prevents him from being a racist. His disillusion about his own racism will not allow him to perform his duties properly as a state senator.

Knollenberg offered to apologize to the people he offended.
