Amid the fifth season of TV One’s “Lexus Verses and Flow,” the spoken word show has announced the 16 recipients of its 2015 scholarship awards, with four winners being from Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University.

The scholarship program, which was launched last year, partners with select HBCUs to give $5,000 to college students who are leaders in their community and demonstrate academic excellence. Since last year, the scholarship has awarded $180,000 to well-deserving scholars.

“These Lexus Verses and Flow Scholarship recipients are accomplished in school and in their communities,” said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. “These young adults are highly motivated and we’re excited to reward them for their efforts. We wish them all the best and know they’ll positively shape and enhance the lives they touch.”

To enter to win the scholarship, students had to submit an application, along with a video or essay detailing what they do to help serve their community and why attending an HBCU is important.
