In 2012, US Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Illinois abruptly left Congressional office during a major political scandal and pending criminal charges. It was revealed later that Jackson was suffering from bipolar disorder and major depression. The son of Civil Rights icon Rev. Jesse Jackson was later convicted of one count of wire and mail fraud and sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.
