After its rocky rollout to fans, Rihanna’s latest album, Anti, has managed to stay among the top albums in the country since its release almost six weeks ago.
Thanks in part to her monster hit song, the Drake assisted “Work,” which has tallied a third consecutive week atop the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, Anti logged another 71K equivalent albums to land in the number three position on this week’s top 200 albums chart. It’s also worth mentioning that she is now in third place of all time with 14 number one songs on the Hot 100 chart. Only the Beatles (20) and Mariah Carey (18) have more chart toppers. Another record that “Work,” which was streamed almost 45 million times last week, has earned Rihanna is being the only artist ever to have a number one song on the Hot 100 from seven consecutive studio albums.
Checking in on the Billboard Top 200 chart, alt rockers The 1975 earn their first ever number one album as their sophomore effort, I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It, registered 108K equivalent albums (98K pure sales) to overtake Adele’s 25 and drop it down to number two for the week. Adele narrowly outpaced Rihanna’s aforementioned Anti, which took the third spot. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ latest album, This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, bows on the chart at number four. And rounding out the top five is Justin Bieber’s Purpose.
Also of note this week, Kelly Clarkson’s Piece By Piece rocketed back into the top ten at number six from 120 after almost a year away thanks to a show-stopping performance on “American Idol.” Lastly, rockers Anthrax were the only other new entry into the top ten as their new set, For All Kings, lands at number nine.
