Grammy award winner Terri Lyne Carrington recently brought some talented vocalists and musicians together for an entertaining evening of smooth jazz at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Carrington — a drummer, composer, producer and bandleader — performed with singer and pianist Oleta Adams and legendary Motown artist Valerie Simpson to perform The Mosaic Project.
The evening was named after Carrington’s album for which she won a Grammy in 2012. The album featured a long list of powerful female vocalists and seasoned musicians, from Esperanza Spalding to Sheila E. The project consisted of jazz covers of classic songs like Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful” and the Paul McCartney/John Lennon collaboration, “Michelle.”
She released a follow-up album, The Mosaic Project: Love and Soul last year, which also received rave reviews.
