Soemtimes children can have a problem with who their mom is dating. But in Fort Bend, Texas, an argument has led to the killing of a mom’s boyfriend. Bennett White was found dead on the front porch of the home he shared with the family. White had allegedly been shot by one of the three teens who lived in the home. The children, identified as Darlecia Johnson, 17, Lavaris Harris, 19, and a 16-year-old male, were all arrested at the scene.
Johnson even posted her displeasure on Facebook days earlier, “I hate my mom’s boyfriend,” but no one knew that it would lead to tragedy.
The mother, who has not been named, was at work at the time of the shooting. The police say that a domestic argument took place. At some point, one of the teens produced a weapon and as White was attempting to flee, he was shot and killed. Harris has been charged with murder and is being held at the Fort Bend County Jail while his two siblings are in a juvenile detention facility. The family had moved recently and had only lived in the neighborhood for three weeks.
The Fort Bend Sheriff’s Office posted the following to its Facebook page: “At about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, deputies arrived at a home in the 14000 block of Panhandle in the Townewest subdivision concerning a “shots fired” incident. Detectives determined it was a domestic dispute between a man and his girlfriend’s children, Darlecia Johnson, 17, Lavaris Harris, 19, and a 16-year-old son. There also was a three-year-old girl in the house. During the disagreement between the man and children, the victim, Bennett White, 40, sustained mortal wounds. The three older children are in custody, facing murder charges. … The cause of death has not been determined. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will perform the autopsy.”
