Max B
In 2006, DipSet affiliate Max B, born Charly Wingate, allegedly sent his then girlfriend, Gina Conway, and step-brother, Kelvin Leerdam, to rob two men at a Fort Lee, New Jersey Holiday Inn. The intended robbery soon turned to murder when one of the men being robbed, David Taylor, was shot at point blank range and died instantly.
After fleeing the scene, all three were caught a short time later by police and hit with a number of charges including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery, kidnapping and aggravated assault. It took three years for the case to go to trial, but in 2009 Max B was found guilty on 9 of the 11 charges against him and sentenced to 75 years in prison.
The long prison sentence has not derailed his career as the rapper has been able to release new music while incarcerated and also recently appeared on Kanye West’s latest album, The Life of Pablo.
