It’s been four years since Brandy released her last album, Two Eleven, and since then the singer-actor has been keeping busy with stints on Broadway’s Chicago, BET’s “The Game” and her new TV show, “Zoe Moon.” However, fans are hungry to see the singer return to her roots and release a follow-up album. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon because reports have surfaced that Brandy is in a bind thanks to a dispute with her label.
According to media reports, the singer has decided to file a lawsuit against Chameleon Records in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that the label is blocking her from recording new music or releasing a new album. Brandy claims that the label has resorted to such tactics in order to get her to sign a new recording contract with them.
Brandy originally signed with Chameleon in 2011 and the label released her Two Eleven album, which spawned the album’s hit lead single “Put It Down,” which featured pop and R&B chart-topper Chris Brown.
According to court documents, the original deal allowed Chameleon the option to release four more Brandy Records. However, Brandy is claiming in her suit that Chameleon is refusing to allow her to record new music for her upcoming album.
The suit claims that the singer already decided to terminate her contract with Chameleon, but she wants a judge to put the final nail in the coffin and void the contract.
Understandably, fans are upset about the news considering that back in January Brandy teased plans for a new album with the release of the retro-soul-inspired song, “Beggin & Pleadin.” Just two weeks ago, R&B superstar Fantasia revealed that Brandy had called her, asking her to record a song with her and fellow R&B titan Jazmine Sullivan.
Despite the major setback, Brandy hinted in her latest Instagram post that she’ll get over this hurdle and get back to making music.
