One man suffered a horrible case of bad luck on April 2 when he escaped a car accident and was immediately injured in another.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, an unnamed man was driving an SUV along Malibu Canyon Road, approximately 30 miles west of L.A., at 4:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. The sheriff’s office posted a photo of the scene on Facebook. The damaged front half of the car can be seen dangling off a cliff.

Reportedly, the driver escaped the SUV unharmed, although he was discombobulated. When he walked onto the highway to receive help, he was struck by a passing tour bus.

“The male adult driver lost control of his vehicle, nearly going over the side,” the sheriff’s station’s Facebook statement said. “The driver became disoriented and exited the vehicle and was struck by a passing tour bus.”

The post added that the driver was “conscious and breathing on [police’s] arrival.” The California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department rushed to the scene to give the injured man medical assistance before he was transported to a local hospital.

There hasn’t been any update on the man’s current condition.

“This is another reminder of the need to drive safely through the canyons of our beautiful area and to use extreme caution at the scene of a traffic collision,” sheriff’s officials said.

Facebook commenters tried to make sense of the peculiar incident. One commenter said, “you would think the driver of the bus seeing the accident would have already been slowing down preparing to stop if necessary at the sight of the dangling car off the cliff.”

Another wrote, “Wow!! That’s either a REALLY BAD day or a REALLY GOOD day….. depending on how you look at it….

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident. No one else is believed to have been injured.
