Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill’s relationship has been under a mountain of scrutiny ever since Meek found himself in an unending beef with Minaj’s Young Money label mate Drake last year. As Drake unquestionably beat Meek at every turn, fans have quickly turned on Meek and have been bashing his relationship with Minaj, pushing for the Young Money queen to drop Meek. Despite the backlash, Minaj has held on tightly to Meek and stood by his side throughout the drama. However, recent comments from Minaj have many people wondering if there’s trouble in paradise between her and her beau.
According to media reports, Minaj recently appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and when DeGeneres asked Minaj about the “engagement ring” she’s been wearing as of late, Minaj clarified that she’s not engaged and she referred to Meek as “this boy that likes me.”
“That’s not my engagement ring, though,” Minaj explained. “He said that that’s my second ring and that if I get a third ring that that would be the engagement ring.”
When DeGeneres asked if Minaj is ready to get engaged, the rapper gave a surprising response and explained that she’s tired of opening up about her private life to the public and doesn’t even want to claim her relationship anymore.
“You know, I don’t know. We’re still figuring each other out. And in fact, I don’t even want to say that I’m in a relationship anymore, because I think when people hear that, they go to like the mean place and try to like—not you, though. You’re super. I love you to death,” Minaj said.
She added, “I would rather not. You know, I used to be secretive. You guys asked me about that before on my pre-interview,” Minaj said. “I used to say, ‘I’m not in a relationship,’ even though I was in a 12-year relationship [with Safaree Samuels] … Now I feel like just going back to that and saying, ‘You know what? I’m single.'”
Minaj explained that a prime example of why she wants to remain silent about her romantic life from now on is when nosey fans noticed that she didn’t post any of her gifts on Valentine’s Day and began posting stories about how she and Meek had broken up. Minaj asserted that she and Meek simply enjoyed a quiet day in bed, but that fans are hungry to create lies and drama around their relaitonship.
“You just have to do you and make yourself happy and forget about trying to get everyone’s approval. It’s better just to keep those things sacred. So, now, I don’t really care to say ‘I’m in a relationship’ or ‘I’m engaged’ or whatever. There’s a boy that likes me. That’s all,” Minaj said.
Minaj then gave a somewhat cryptic ending to her romance talk as she explained that she’s not sure what’s going to happen between her and Meek.
“He and I are just two souls right now passing through the universe, and I don’t know what’s going to happen. I just have learned over the years to just let things be and come and go as they are going to come and go,” Minaj said.
Well, this definitely does remind us of how Minaj was when she initially became famous and was notoriously silent about her private life. However, we wonder if Meek is happy about Minaj not claiming him publicly anymore.
