Beyoncé’s most recent musical project, “Lemonade,” was a trending topic immediately after its release and has spawned several discussions that are also still trending. Now it may receive even more accolades, as the hour-long musical piece will be considered for an Emmy.
HBO will submit the special for Primetime Emmy consideration in the “variety special” category, according to Variety. If nominated, it will be the singer’s third Emmy nod. Beyoncé was first nominated at the award show in the Outstanding Special Class – Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Programs category for her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show. Last year, she was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Program category for “On the Run Tour: Beyoncé and Jay Z,” in which she served as an executive producer and performer.
Interestingly enough, while “Lemonade” has been on the lips of both fans of the music diva and nonfans alike, the special reportedly did not receive stellar ratings. According to Perez Hilton, the ratings did not even reach one million viewers, which was not what HBO expected. But the album, which was exclusively released on Jay Z’s Tidal for the first day before being released on other platforms, is expected to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart. If this happens, it will be the singer’s sixth album to top the charts.
Currently, anyone who’s seen “Lemonade” is likely still wondering about some of Beyoncé’s lyrics that hinted to infidelity in her marriage with Jay Z. A couple of women have already been accused of being the homewrecker, or the “Becky with the good hair” that the singer references in the special, such as designer Rachel Roy and singer Rita Ora. Some are wondering how the rapper feels about the situation. An E! source said that Jay Z is “understanding” of his wife’s message.
“He is fully supportive. He understands the reasoning. This is part of the process of being transparent. And they have healed. He has been very humble about the experience. Beyoncé is the love of his life and he will do what it takes,” the source said.
