One woman went to a Florida doctor for a butt lift, but was shocked after realizing she had been given a botched tummy tuck instead.
After Crystal Heath lost 100 pounds, she was displeased with the amount of fat that had left her butt. She saw videos online of Dr. Osakatukei Omulepu advertising liposuction and Brazilian butt lifts. Heath signed up for the procedure, which costs $4,100.
“I had lost a lot of weight. And in the process, I lost my butt as well,” she told NBC6.
On Feb. 15, she went to Spectrum Aesthetic in Miami for the surgery. She went under the knife, but when Heath awoke, she discovered a cut across her abdomen and a seven-inch hole in her stomach. She found out that instead of undergoing her requested surgery, she was given a botched tummy tuck.
“I didn’t need a tummy tuck, I paid for a Brazilian butt lift,” she said.
She was told that she didn’t have enough fat for the liposuction and butt lift that she wanted.
“At the moment when everything went wrong, I felt like I was going to die. I started throwing up instantly, I start throwing up so bad it was like bursting in my stomach,” Heath told a reporter.
She suffered kidney failure and contracted an infection. Heath was forced to stay in the hospital for 11 days following the procedure.
According to NBC 6, Dr. Omulepu had performed similar botched procedures on four other women, and he was then banned from performing butt lifts and liposuction. His license has been partially restricted by the Florida Department of Health, but he still practices at Encore Plastic Surgery in Hialeah.
The state health department is trying to revoke Dr. Omulepu‘s license completely, but the doctor — who is not a board-certified plastic surgeon — is fighting to continue his medical practice in Florida.
Heath is still suffering from the faulty surgery the doctor executed. She still has a hole in her stomach and has to see a nurse three times per week.
“I almost lost my life trying to get a butt. And it was definitely not worth it,” Heath said.
