Robert L. Johnson became the first Black billionaire after selling his beloved BET. He aimed his sights on more profitable businesses entities, including RLJ Development LLC, the real estate investment arm of The RLJ Companies. In 2006, RLJ acquired 100 hotels for $1.7 billion.
