The Essence Music Festival featured a host of panels where businesswomen, media moguls and top journalists like Tyra Banks, Soledad O’Brien and Oprah Winfrey spoke for absolutely free.
Atlanta businesswoman Sabrina Peterson, the CEO of Glam University, spoke on the “Show Me the Money” panel about financing your business.
Peterson connected with the audience by revealing personal information about herself. She shared the fact that a few years ago she was a single mom, newly released from prison, with no way to provide for her 18-month old-baby. That was one of the many problems she was facing while in the beginning stages of developing and producing her new baby, Glam University. The obstacles never deterred her from pursuing her dreams or seeing them as impossible.
Peterson began with a series of questions to help the audience analyze their businesses.
- What is your brand? Make it simple. When people get lost in translation of what you do, buyers get lost. When buyers can’t understand what you do they will go somewhere else. As soon as a person looks at your name and your website they should know what you do.
- What is your brand in motion? When someone looks at your brand, website or logo, what emotion do you want them to feel?
- What is your brand strategy?
Peterson also emphasized that the money your business generates should be invested back into your business to help your business continue growing.
After the break, view a sneak peek of Peterson’s intro. A full video of her entire lecture and a portion of the Q-and-A will be available on rolling out‘s video page.
