As previously reported, On Monday, Aug. 8, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote an emotional post on iNSTAGRAM, praising everyone from his Fast 8 movie crew, including Universal Studios Entertainment and his female co-stars. “There’s no other franchise that gets my blood boiling more than this one,” he explained. “My female co-stars are always amazing and I love ’em.”
But it was his candid diss, noting that his “male co-workers however are a different story,” adding, “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s–t to do anything about it anyway. Candy a–es,” that raised more than a few eyebrows.
Although the former professional wrestler didn’t initially drop names — leaving people to wonder whether Vin Diesel, Scott Eastwood, Tyrese, Jason Statham and/or Ludacris had ruffled his feathers, since then reports have surfaced claiming that Johnson is in fact beefing with Diesel. “Tension has been building up for months,” a source close to the production told People.
Back in October, a source told The Hollywood Reporter Diesel was displaying more than diva behavior, noting it dated back to the filming of Furious 7. “Vin spent a whole day in his trailer one day,” the source explained. “The next day, they waited four hours for him. He called a meeting [May 28] of studio execs to his trailer for two-and-a-half hours to say, ‘What the f— am I doing here?’ ”
Another source told Page Six Diesel “was constantly late [when we worked together]” and “acted like a diva and has held up production before” and that “it’s not surprising that he’s the one The Rock is calling out.”
Fast-forward to Tuesday, Aug. 9 and the pair had allegedly convened at an Atlanta set, to make amends. “I think there were some words said yesterday about this and that’s what started this whole thing online but the tension has been going on for months,” a source told TMZ.
Oddly enough, according to the source, Johnson’s tardiness has also been an issue for the production, and Diesel, who has starred in the franchise since its 2001 big screen debut, got fed up. “I don’t know what’s going on with The Rock,” says the source. “He is always late and it really has delayed our production. Vin just couldn’t take it anymore.”
On Wednesday, Aug. 10 Johnson seemingly addressed the issue in a second Instagram post. Only this time, it appeared his focus was to move forward. “You guys reading this know how much I believe in the idea of TEAM EFFORT,” he wrote. “That means respecting every person, their time and their value when they step on to my set or partner with our production company. And like with any team — that’s a family — there’s gonna be conflict. Family is gonna have differences of opinion and fundamental core beliefs. To me, conflict can be a good thing, when its followed by great resolution. I was raised on healthy conflict and welcome it. And like any family, we get better from it.
“At the end of the day me and #F8 co-stars all agree on the most important thing: Delivering an incredible movie to the world,” he wrote.
