Reality TV star Toya Wright suffered a heartbreaking tragedy last month when news reports revealed that her two younger brothers, Ryan “Rudy” Johnson, 24, and Joshua “Fish” Johnson, 31, were gunned down in a senseless act of violence in New Orleans. Since then, Wright has, understandably, been mourning the death of her brothers. And although her family has come together to help each other heal, new reports claim that Wright’s ex-husband, Lil Wayne, has been vigilant in helping Wright as well.

As previously reported, Wright’s brothers were gunned down in a vehicle in New Orleans’ Seventh Ward on July 31. New Orleans officials state that the heinous crime is still under investigation and no suspects have been apprehended yet.

According to news reports, the day after the Johnson brothers’ murders, Wayne flew in to New Orleans to be by Wright’s side as she mourned the death of her brothers.

“It didn’t surprise me that he showed up,” Wright said in a new interview. “We’re still very, very close.”

Wright and Wayne were married for two years before splitting in 2006, and during those years, they raised Wright’s younger brother, Ryan, alongside their own daughter, 17-year-old Reginae Carter. Wright explains that Carter was heartbroken when she found out that her uncle had been murdered and that she’s grateful that Wayne has been by his daughter’s side to help her deal with the deaths.

“[Lil Wayne’s] daughter needed him and he was there,” Wright says. “He calls and checks on us all the time.”

Wright and her family recently laid her brothers to rest, but she explains that Wayne didn’t come to the funeral because he didn’t want to make it a media thing. However, she also explains that he stayed away from the funeral for his own personal reasons.

“He really can’t handle funerals. Neither can I,” Wright says. “It was so hard to see my two brothers in caskets. I had nightmares afterward. It was so hard.”

Now, Wright explains that she’s cherishing the time she has with her family and friends while they’re still alive and well.

“Me and my daughter both wish we had one more day to say, ‘I love you,’ ” Wright says.

Our hearts go out to Wright and her family during this difficult time and we wish them peace in the aftermath of this tragedy.
