The 2016 ONE Musicfest will be remembered as one of the music festivals in Atlanta history. In one day, festivalgoers witnessed the rise of new age R&B/Soul, the youthful energy of A$AP Ferg, the mesmerizing sounds of Erykah Badu, the West Coast gangsta movement of Ice Cube, and historic reunion of the Dungeon Family.
Here are the most powerful moments as ONE Musicfest.
Ms. Badu
Erykah Badu hit the stage shortly before sunset dressed in all black and accompanied by her band. With a beat machine and a cup of tea to her side, Badu created new ways to present past hits such as “On and On,” “Out My Mind,” and the audacious “Tyrone.” Badu also hit the stage during the Dungeon Family’s reunion to perform “Liberation.”
Cube’s vision
Ice Cube probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves as being one of the top all-time lyricists in rap. But his impact is undeniable. The West Coast legend hit the stage at the ONE Musicfest to perform past hits such as “Jackin’ for Beats,” “Check Yo Self,” and “It Was Good Day.”
Dungeon Family Reunion
The most anticipated of the night was the Dungeon Family reunion. The historical moments featured performances by DF members OutKast, Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, Killer Mike, Witch Doctor, and Slimm Calhoun.
The New Age of R&B and Soul
The ONE Musicfest also featured the new stars of R&B/Soul. Artists such as Andra Day, Anderson .Paak, Tulani, Gary Clark Jr., and BJ the Chicago Kid proved that great soul music has a place in an era where rap often dominates the Billboard charts.
Busta Ryhmes and the essence of New York hip-hop
Busta Rhymes represents the essence of New York hip-hop. The fiery emcee performed hits such as “Woo Haa!!,” “Touch It,” and “Pass the Courvoisier.”
