LaShone Garth
Executive Director, Blanket of Freedom Incorporated
Owner, LGarth Productions LLC
Retired Major LaShone Garth believes that at any stage in your life, you can do anything that you want and set out to do.
“There isn’t anything I can’t do, just things I haven’t done yet,” Garth said. “There is always an opportunity to be great. Use every waking hour and moment of your life seeking greatness…and the best way to be great is giving of yourself in service to others.”
Enlisting at the age of 17, Garth’s two-decade career included a tour of duty in the combat zone of Iraq. She was commissioned as a 2LT military police officer and spent eight years in the Guard before transferring to the U.S. Army Reserves. Her military, education, and personal life experiences provided key success factors for Garth to operate in integrity, always being willing to help others, and never stop learning.
“My belief is that all women are powerful,” said the Georgia State University alum with an MA in forensic psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology who is also working on her doctorate. “The objective is to learn how to utilize that power to affect change as well as using it to uplift other women and be a pillar of strength to the family and community. I think the issue with many women is that they do not understand the power that they have. Therefore, it is up to those women who do understand, to feed into other women to help to ignite that power in others.”
Garth leverages her platform as host of the long running radio show The “B” Word at www.theb-word.com to speak about the value of creating one’s own destiny. She also founded the Blanket of Freedom organization to support combat veterans with mental illness, and to raise awareness of the silent wounds veterans endure.
