When Beyonce’s artists Chloe x Halle had the opportunity to perform for the students of the Olive Vista Middle School, they were all in. Organized by producers of the film Sing, the fundraiser presented an effort to provide schools with music instrument to prevent the national problem of removing musical programs from the classroom.
Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s Sing partnered with the VH1 Save the Music Foundation to donate $40K to restore the music programs in four public schools. Two of the schools are located in Los Angeles, Olive Vista Middle School and Stevenson Middle School. The other two schools are in New York City, PS 188 The Island School and MS 158 Marie Curie School. The fundraiser in Los Angeles at Olive Vista Middle School is where the first donation of instruments took place.
To raise money for the campaign, each school was given a social media card. The students were asked to share the card on social media and Sing producers donated $1 for every social share (up to $40K). Four schools received a Keys+Kids grant to enhance their music programs with a piano and three keyboards.
Chloe x Halle’s performance was the main highlight of the program. Their performance featured an introduction by Sing executive music producer Harvey Mason, Jr.
In addition to Chloe x Halle’s performance, the students of the Olive Vista Middle School sang their own version of Stevie Wonder’s classic “Don’t You Worry About a Thing.” The song was produced by Harvey Mason, Jr. and featured on the Sing soundtrack.
Following the performance portion of the program, there was a Q&A with Chloe x Halle and the students had plenty of questions. The girls enjoyed answering the questions and the crowd participation.
