The recent victory of the Dallas Cowboys over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers caused celebration for many fans. However, those who were rooting against the Cowboys have been subjected to putdowns by Cowboys’ fans who hope to see the team in the Super Bowl. One man in Austin, Texas, took his anti-Cowboys hatred to an extreme.
Police say that Pontrey O’Neal Jones, 20, was watching the game on TV with his father and stepmother. After the win, his stepmother, Magdalena Ruiz, began gloating and celebrating the win and teasing her husband and Jones. It was then that Jones grabbed a knife and stabbed his stepmother repeatedly from behind. The woman’s husband attempted to the stop the attack, however, he was not successful, and Jones was able to flee the scene. Responding officers began first aid on Ruiz until EMS arrived and took over the rescue efforts. She was transported to South Austin Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead
Jones was found 10 minutes after the attack lying naked in the grass a few blocks away and was taken into custody. Police said that Jones admitted to the attack and had stashed a knife in the couch in anticipation of killing his stepmother. In addition, he told police he was going to snap his little sister’s neck but decided against killing her at the last moment. Jones is now charged with felony first-degree murder and is being held on a $500K bond.
