George Michael has died at the age of 53. Michael scored several major pop hits during the 1980s including songs such as “Faith, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” and “Father Figure.

Although Michael was British, his music often featured soul-inspired instrumentation and melodies. In turn, rappers and producers often used samples from Michael’s music.

On “Careless Whisper,” Michael sings over a melancholy sax about the heartbreak of losing a lover. The song was a big hit in urban communities due to its jazz-inspired music.

Future and Nicki Minaj “Rock Star” 

Future borrows Michael’s melody for a chorus that sheds light on living the “rockstar” lifestyle with drugs, sex, and music.

Mac “Be All You Can Be”

The No Limit Records artist rapped over the “Careless Whisper” instrumental while Fiend seeks to inspire those who trapped in the street life to see life beyond the block.

The Firm teamed up for a reflective take on life while rapping over the “Careless Whisper” sample.
