If the success of Get Out is any indication of the power of Black film, the producers of the film may have another mega success coming with Sleight. Directed by JD Dillard, Sleight is a story about an inner city street magician who turns his life around after the death of his parents.

Central character Bo, played by Jacob Lattimore, was a good student with a close family and a strong interest in magic but after both his parents pass, and he’s left to care for his little sister, he resorts to a life of crime to keep food on the table. When he’s too deep into the street life, his sister is then kidnapped and he must use his magic to save her.

This genre-bending film (sci-fi, drama, crime, superhero) was picked up by WWE Studios and Blumhouse Productions, the same producers of Get Out. Thus far, 2017 has done a great job at bringing representation to the big screen and with the mega successes of Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Fences, Sleight seems to be next in line.

Though the original release date was set for April 7, Sleight will now hit theaters April 28. Check out the trailer, after the break.
