An Oklahoma man is being praised for fatally shooting a father and saving the lives of his twin infants. Police reported that Leland Foster, 27, forced his way into the home of the mother of his premature 3-month-old twin infants, a boy and a girl.
A 911 call was received and a woman told dispatchers that Foster had a knife and was threatening to kill her and her babies. City of Ada Police Department Public Information Director Lisa Bratcher said dispatchers could hear the woman screaming in the background amid sounds of a struggle. A 12-year-old girl had fled the house when Foster forced his way in and the girl went to her neighbor’s home. The neighbor, identified as Cash Freeman, grabbed his gun and ran next door into the home. He discovered Foster holding the babies under water in a tub while keeping the mother at bay with a knife.
Freeman shot Foster twice in the back, killing him, and the infants were pulled from the water. Police arrived at the scene and the infants were taken to Mercy Hospital Ada, then on to an Oklahoma City hospital and are in stable condition.
Police questioned Freeman about the shooting and later released him. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office to determine whether he will face any charges for the shooting. A motive for Foster’s actions has not been determined and police are still investigating the shooting. The Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy and toxicology screening on Foster’s body to determine whether he was under the influence of drugs are alcohol. Freeman told the media that he felt he did the right thing by shooting Foster, but is fearful he might be charged in the shooting.
