Sporting a jersey for the newly minted World Series winners, the Houston Astros, Beyoncé is joined by husband Jay Z and sister Solange Knowles as the three of them flank the Queen of Creole, Leah Chase, at her New Orleans eatery, Dooky Chase’s. The legendary Creole chef apparently asked her great-grandchild Emily Hayy to snap a picture of her with her friends, which happened to be the R&B and hip-hop rock star family.
Leah Chase is the widow of Edgar Lawrence “Dooky” Chase Jr., who died on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, two days before Thanksgiving.
Take the streetcar up Canal Street and jump off at Galvez in the Treme district for the short walk to the historic Dooky Chase’s to fulfill your Creole and soul food cravings. No surprise here, the gumbo is delish. They also get rave reviews about their fried chicken and catfish. Drop in Tuesday to Friday if you want to get a try at a good portion of the menu. It’s when they have the waiter-attended buffet, which offers potato salad, pickled okra, and green beans and the dessert of the day.
