2017 was full of Black talent and 2018 will be even greater. From television to Hollywood feature films it’s safe to say, we’ve arrived. As the world prepares to indulge in Black excellence with a wide range of stories to tell. Black creators will shine in front and behind scenes and we are here for all of it.

Below are the top ten most anticipated in 2018:


1). Black Panther – A Marvel Film – February 16th, 2018

T’Challa, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.


Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Guria, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Andy Serkis.

2).  “Dear White People” – Netflix – Early 2018

Picking up after the failed protest that ended the first season and with the main characters still reeling from their anti-climactic revolution. Season 2 is recruiting “The Chi” creator Lena Waithe in an interesting new role. Lena is no stranger to the Dear White People franchise. She produced the film on which the Netflix series is based.

3). “To Rome for Love” – Bravo Television – January 7th, 2018

Five women embark on a journey to Italy with Diann Valentine. The women are in different stages of their lives in regards to love and the unique stories they tell, but they are all in the same boat when it boils down to dating as Black women in America. The women must face their fears, move on from their emotional baggage and also understand cultural differences as they seek new love in Rome.

4). A Wrinkle in Time – March 9th, 2018

A film based on the science/fantasy novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle, A Wrinkle in Time revolves around a young girl whose father, a government scientist, has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a tesseract. Three celestial beings guide her, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him.

The super cast includes Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Andre Holland, Bellamy Young and Mindy Kaling.

5). “Grown-ish” – ABC – January 3rd, 2018

A spinoff from the award-winning hit show “Black-ish”, “Grown-ish” follows character Zoey (Yara Shahidi), as she heads into her freshman year of college. Look for a few series regulars as Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Trevor Jackson, Aaron Jackson, Jordan Buhat, Emily Arlook, Francia Raisa, Chris Parnell, Deon Cole, Chloe and Halle, and Luka also recur in the series.

6). “The Chi” – Showtime  – January 7th, 2018

“The Chi” focuses on a group of residents who become linked by unfortunate circumstances but bonded by the need for redemption. Produced by Lena Waithe, Common, and Reid with an exceptional cast that includes Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Armando Riesco and Tiffany Boone.

7). “Face Value Season 2” – BET – Early 2018

Deon Cole and Wanda Sykes are bringing fun to late nights with a hilarious new series “Face Value.” A game that will challenge people’s prejudices. Based solely on appearance, contestants will access strangers and make snap judgments about them. The award-winning actor isn’t the only comedian you’ll see on the show. Girl’s Trip breakout star Tiffany Haddish serves as the series correspondent.

8). “Black Lightning” – The CW  – January 16th, 2018

A hot new show based on a DC Comic of the same name, “Black Lightning” is forced into vigilante life after a nine-year retirement due to the rise of The One Hundred, a local gang whose actions lead to increased crime and corruption in the community. Starring Cress Williams, China McClain and Nafessa Williams. A Salim and Mara Brock Akil production.
