Nicki Minaj jolted popular culture awake Saturday morning when the Pink Barbz delivered the news that she is dating multiplatinum rapper Eminem.

The rap queen said she was “confirming” it to a fan on Instagram and it had all of cyberspace doing double takes and jaw-dropping.


“You dating Eminem???” one of Minaj’s followers asked her in the comments section of the video verse Minaj posted to Instagram.

Minaj replied “yes.”


However, once Eminem, 45, answered her with “Girl you know it’s true,” fans began to suspect the back and forth may be little more than a prank.

“Babe, I thought we were gonna keep it on the low til the wedding,” Minaj jokingly responded to the rapper. “Yikes. I’ll talk to you when I get home.”

Representatives for Minaj and Eminem have not responded to the media’s request for comment or confirmation. But the Cash Money queen has been known to jokingly flirt on social media in the past.

This episode comes just months after the Detroit-born and bred lyrical lion named Marshall Mathers told Vulture magazine that he hasn’t had much success on the dating scene in his post-married life.

“It’s tough. Since my divorce I’ve had a few dates and nothing’s panned out in a way that I wanted to make it public,” he explained. “Dating’s just not where I’m at lately.”

Eminem, who is divorced from Kim Scott, has used the dating app Tinder to connect with women. Occasionally, he said, he will run across interesting prospects in other interesting ways.

“I also used to go to strip clubs,” he said. “What can I say? Going to strip clubs is how I was meeting some chicks. It was an interesting time for me.”

Interesting topic since Minaj, who was boo’d up most recently with rap icon Nas, nor Eminem have ever demonstrated any attraction to one another publicly nor on social media.

Besides, Minaj has had her hands full trying to push out her fourth studio LP, Queen.

Singles “Barbie Tingz” and “Chun-Li” have already been dropped, and she performed the latter cut on the season finale of “Saturday Night Live.” But Minaj was actually set to release her full CD on June 15. And now Minaj said this past week that she is postponing it until Aug. 10.

Whenever it comes out, the project will be Minaj’s first new album in four years. She is also planning a tour that is scheduled to begin in September.

In any event, the fact that Nicki could possibly be smashing Slim Shady has Twitter in a tizzy. Check out the responses below:
