DeWayne Rogers: I’m excited to welcome one of our newest team members, Amara, to sit down and chat about our weekly playlist. I think it’s important work that we’re doing here, in our effort to make sure that we lower the number of truly washed and out of touch people. What are your thoughts on being a part of this playlist?
Amara: I am super excited to be able to help create a playlist to help those who may feel out of the loop when it comes to this new wave of music. There are some people who have been playing the same songs for the past year, so I feel like it’s up to us to throw them a nice alley oop.
DeWayne: Ten points for you on the hoops reference. If only LeBron could have someone throw him one (too soon?) Before we dive into our selections, what is it about a song that makes you want to put it on repeat?
Amara: Well, the first thing that catches me when listening to a new song is the beat. The beat has to be sick. A soft intro and intense beat drop will for sure keep a song on loop in my book. Once I’m hooked on the beat, you’ve gotta sell me on the message and lyrics. If that all meshes together well, I’ll definitely have that on repeat consistently for at least 24 hours.
DeWayne: Ok, that makes sense, although I’m not really sure how many people really focus on message nowadays. There’s been a lot of elementary ass lyrics on songs lately. So this week, we really have to come out the gate hard. How confident are you about your playlist selections?
Amara: I’ve always had a good ear for music, and I’m fire on the aux. So lets just say I’m pretty confident that our listeners will be blasting this week’s playlist on repeat throughout the entire week. I also think they will be anxious to hear Vol. 2 when it drops.
DeWayne: I can’t argue with that. Let’s dive into our playlists.
