A simple act of kindness has resulted in a senseless murder of a serving member of the U.S. Navy. Around 2:20 a.m. Saturday near San Diego, California, Curtis Adams, 21, was driving with his girlfriend when they spotted a motorist that seemed stranded on the shoulder of the road near a car.
According to San Diego Union-Tribune, Adams stopped near the vehicle to offer assistance to the driver and was shot as soon as he stepped out of his car. The shooter, identified as Brian Acuna, 21, then jumped into his own vehicle and sped away.
The California Highway Patrol was alerted, and Acuna was apprehended a few miles from where he allegedly shot Adams.
Law enforcement officials also stated that Acuna is a suspect in another shooting that occurred some 10 minutes before he allegedly shot Adams. In the earlier incident, Acuna allegedly was with other suspects who were caught breaking into a vehicle by its owner. The group fired shots at the unidentified victim and fled the scene in the same car that was used in the shooting of Adams.
At this time, Acuna is being charged with first-degree murder and second-degree burglary and held without bail at the San Diego Central Jail pending arraignment on Wednesday, October 31, 2018.
The investigations of both incidents are ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
