The massive devastation being wrought by the California Camp Fire has claimed 42 lives and burned an estimated 91,000 acres. The entire town of Paradise, California, was burned and thousands have been left homeless as the fires continue to rage.

Among those being affected are some of the top entertainers in music, film and TV in the once picturesque Malibu area. Even Kanye West was facing a home loss until he stepped in and saved not only his family’s home but also perhaps his entire neighborhood of palatial estates.

It has been reported that Kanye dug deep into his pockets and hired a private firefighting team to combat the blaze as it approached his home in the Hidden Hills community. According to TMZ, Kanye’s $60 million mansion sits in a cul de sac, and if his house caught fire, it might have created a domino effect that would have burned at least 12 homes. The firefighters dug a series of trenches to act as a fire break and stopped the fire from spreading.

Earlier, Kim Kardashian West filmed the fires from her private jet and upon landing realized that those same fires were headed toward her home. She posted to her Instagram followers that she was told she only had an hour to pack and evacuate the area and asked for prayers. Her neighbors posted they were thankful that Kanye made the decision that ultimately saved their homes as well.

So far, celebrities who have lost their homes include:

  • Robin Thicke
  • Miley Cyrus
  • Shannen Doherty
  • Gerard Butler
  • Lady Gaga
  • Melissa Etheridge
  • Alyssa Milano
  • Martin Sheen
