Former NFL player charged with staging fake hate crime

Gwinnett police made another discovery when they went inside Coughman’s business.

“Officers saw racially motivated words, swastikas, and ‘MAGA,’” according to the police report. “Several booth cushions were sliced open. They also found broken mirrors, cut wires and a damaged video surveillance system. The smell of spray paint was very fresh. When officers touched it, the paint appeared wet.”

Police also said, according to CNN, that Coughman had already contacted his insurance company and reported that his business was burglarized. But he did not contact the local police about the alleged crime. After concluding their investigation, Coughman was arrested the next day.

He was booked and released on $8,300 bond, Gwinnett County Jail records reflect according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Coughman played in the Canadian Football Leauge and was on several NFL teams from 2012 to 2016, including the Washington Redskins, the Dallas Cowboys and most recently the Arizona Cardinals. But it doesn’t appear that he ever made an active roster.
