Menopause is equivalent to a bad word for most women. From hot flashes to hair and skin changes to mood swings, many women look toward their latter 40s and 50s and dread the changes their bodies will experience as they transition from their childbearing years.

“Our grandmothers and mothers never talked about menopause,” says Denise Pines, president of the California Medical Board. “This has resulted in half-truths, all-out myths, unnecessary anxiety and generations of women who have been unprepared for this inevitable-yet-manageable transition. We’re removing the stigma, so women don’t have to suffer in silence.”

Pines created the Wisepause Lifestyle Tour with the intent of educating women and helping them understand the transition to menopause should not be one that’s dreaded or feared. The tour will make its second stop in Atlanta, on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Pines suggests this is a community experience created to connect women to the best midlife health information, trusted healthcare professionals, innovative hormonal healing therapies, products and services, and other women on similar journeys.

In workshops and small-group “table talks,” experts in the fields of medicine, alternative medicine and healing arts will discuss topics including hormonal fluctuations, incontinence, nutrition and age-defying skin and beauty treatments. Exhibitors at the Wellness Experiential Tent will provide information and samples of massage, cryotherapies, nutritional supplements, organic foods, yoga, and noninvasive skin and beauty treatments.

Atlanta is the second stop on the tour, and Pines wanted to include local influencers from the city to be a part of the event. Natt Taylor, an Atlanta-based fashion designer whose womenswear is sold in Belk and Macy’s department stores, will discuss what looks and trends are complimentary on various body types. MiMi Johnson, a celebrity makeup artist and owner of The Glamatory and The Grind Pretty Box, will provide makeup tips that transition from work to social settings. Understanding that mental health is also a big part of the conversation with women experiencing menopause or perimenopause, Pines also invited Tammy von Nordheim, a mental health therapist and founder of The Girl in the Glass women’s empowerment group, who will discuss mental health and essential oil remedies.
