Tamika Christy tells the story of a complicated family in new book

What advice do you have for young and aspiring writers?

I read the classics. I read chick-lit. I read romance. I read nonfiction. It helps you figure out what you like. It helps you figure out what you don’t like. It helps you develop your writing style.

I also recommend writing, of course, if you’re going to be a writer. Read things that you may think that you normally would not read. Spend some time with yourself, and when you first write something, it might not sound good and you may not like it, but don’t try to edit right away. Just keep writing, and get your thoughts out. Get your stories out.

I would also say take notes. I started doing that after this second book because a lot of people and experiences that I have are the inspiration for my stories.
