A former police officer in Georgia learned his fate after being convicted of aggravated assault in the death of Anthony Hill.

On Nov. 1, former police officer Robert “Chip” Olsen was sentenced to 12 years in prison in DeKalb County, Georgia, by Superior Court Judge LaTisha Dear Jackson. Jackson also sentenced Olsen to eight years of probation.

In March 2015, Olsen confronted Hill, who was naked and unarmed at an apartment complex in DeKalb County, Georgia. Hill, an Army veteran, suffered from mental illness and had stopped taking his medication. He had stripped naked outside of his apartment complex and was acting erratically when someone called the police.

Although Olsen was found not guilty of murder, he was convicted of aggravated assault and other charges. including violation of oath and making a false statement, that could send him to prison for more than 30 years.

The jury verdict in Olsen’s trial comes one week after the nation watched as ex-Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was found guilty of murdering her neighbor Botham Jean in his apartment. Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime.
