The nominations for the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards have been released. However, unlike the Golden Globes nominations, which were announced Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, nominations for the 2020 SAG Awards didn’t ignore some of the year’s most outstanding Black films, series, directors, actors and producers.

Overall, three films — The Irishman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Bombshell — lead the nominations for the 2020 SAG Awards.

On television, Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” received four nominations, including Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Berstein, who both were named in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series category. Netflix was the studio with the most nominations, including seven on the film side and 13 on the television side.

Jamie Foxx was nominated for his supporting role in Just Mercy, a film based on attorney Bryan Stevenson’s New York Times bestseller, Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, which stars Michael B. Jordan. Additionally, Cynthia Erivo received a nod for her leading role as Harriet Tubman in Harriet, as did Lupita Nyong’o for performance in Jordan Peele’s thriller Us.

Sterling K. Brown received a nod for his role in the NBC drama “This Is Us.”  The new HBO show “Watchmen,” starring Regina King, has also been nominated. Mahershala Ali received a nod for his portrayal in “True Detective,” and Jharrel Jerome was recognized for his performance in Ava DuVernay’s explosive miniseries “When They See Us.”

In the TV list, Netflix was followed by HBO with 10 nominations and Amazon with seven nominations.

Robert De Niro, as was previously announced, will be honored with a lifetime achievement accolade at the event.

The SAG Awards will take place at Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall on Jan. 19, 2020.
