“I have a very strong passion for health and for science. So that was something I wanted to do. Plus, I have little cousins [and] people who look up to me, and it’s good for them to see that you have options. A lot of times rappers are just considered rappers. It’s like, ‘No, I’m technical at something.’ So, it’s bigger than just being a rapper. To just have those options is what kept me pushing through.”
Unsurprisingly, fem’s love of family is on par with his zest for science and biology (he simply defines it as “the study of life”). In fact, his family is responsible for his surname. He admits the origin of the name is also tied to the S. Carter era and the eventual rebranding of Jay-Z (his household is chock-full of Roc-A-Fella fans), but it is a family nickname. Period.
